France approves new climate law #233

2021/31/08

The French law drawn from the work of the Citizen’s Climate Convention will sustainably anchor ecology in our contemporary society. This text has already paved the way for a new type of law-making, based on a more participatory democracy. It will also enable us to transform our society and our growth model.

This is the culmination of a long process that will have lasted two years. The law n° 2021-1104 of August 22, 2021 on combating climate change and strengthening resilience to its effects, also known as the “Climate and Resilience Law”, was officially published in the Official Journal on August 24. The law aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the long term and to do so, several provisions are put in place. These measures are grouped in the 300 articles of the law and classified within five themes: consumption, production and work, travel, housing and food.

This concerns in particular advertising, energy renovation of buildings, consumer information on the environmental impact of products and services sold in stores or on the Internet, the fight against land artificialisation or the strengthening of environmental justice.
